Friday, Oct. 3 will be the first official Hawk Spirit Friday here on the University campus. Led by Hawk Hall spirit students, the program is meant to increase school pride and unity among the members of the University by wearing the school colors of red and white on Fridays.
In Dec. 2007, President Walter Harrison approached Jane Horvath with a unique project: create a statement of shared values that represents the University community. After acknowledging that there had been extensive discussion over the growing need to "foster and support a collective sense of community at the University," said Horvath, she agreed to chair the committee.
Last Saturday, the 27th of Sept., the New Haven Underground Film Festival took place at the Wilde Auditorium here on campus, giving local directors an opportunity to show their work to the public. The festival began at 12, finishing off with closing comments by Leslie Dallas, the Managing Director, at seven o'clock.
This past weekend in Amherst, Mass., the University of Hartford men's soccer team experienced both the emotional highs and lows of playing close games, defeating a national powerhouse 48 hours before losing a heartbreaker in double overtime. Hartford (4-2-2) entered their first game of the UMass Classic on a two game winning streak after dominating a pair of 3-0 wins against Bryant and Canisius.
After two postponements, the Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) Act in the U.S. Congress was enacted. The act began its run in 2002, but was postponed until Sept. 30, 2008. Anyone else wondering what took so long? This act will require many of the products sold in grocery stores, including meat, poultry, fish, fruits and vegetables, to have labels declaring their country of origin.
